Goodbye Franktown, Hello Paonia!
We know what you’re thinking… What’s a Paonia? It’s a town nestled in the North Fork Valley on the Western Slope of Colorado. Just south of Glenwood Springs on the other side of McClure Pass, surrounded by the Gunnison National Forest. Chaucy will soon be calling Paonia home!
But before I get too carried away with the geography, let’s talk about the big move. Howdy, Sammi here! Some of you know me from the studio, sometimes mistakenly thinking I’m the boss lady herself. I’ve been working with Chaucy for four years and I’ve worn many hats in the studio, from glazing pots to managing the studio to becoming Chaucy’s not-so-official spokesperson. We’ve been a bit quiet, but now that all our ducks are in a row we want to fill you in on what’s been going on and what we’re looking forward to.
After 26 years of living in Parker, making pottery out of her home and later out of her studio in Franktown, Chaucy is ready for a change. She visited Paonia in November of 2016 and fell in love with the tiny town (population a whopping 1,451). Ever since we’ve been thinking of ways to make this move happen! This did NOT happen overnight. Lots of blood, sweat and tears have gone into this move. Literally. Chaucy sold her home in Parker and got the cutest little mountain home you’ve ever seen in the heart of Paonia (pictured below).
She’s making the move with her son Henry and her furbabies Happy, Bob, and Clarence the cat in tow. And what’s so special about Paonia, you may be wondering? Paonia is an environmentally conscious town, home to farmers, ranchers, outdoor enthusiasts and artists alike. It’s a hotbed of organic farming and sustainably raised meats. It’s in a Certified Colorado Creative District, surrounded by forests and trails, offering a wonderful mix of scenery, lifestyle and recreation. Paonia is the hip and happenin’ place to be!
So what’s happening with the studio? It’s moving too! Chaucy is building a studio on her property behind her new home starting in May. The new studio will be open to the public on a call-ahead basis. But if you’re wandering the streets of Paonia and the gate is open, come on back. For the summer, her oldest son will be staying at the Paonia house, taking care of the property and enjoying mountain life. We will still be in Franktown for the summer, making as much pottery as possible and preparing for the Colorado Renaissance Festival. This is going to be our best summer yet! Chaucy will be out of the Front Range and onto the Western Slope come August.
Follow Chaucy’s big move on Facebook and Instagram. The secret is out and we’re very excited to share the transformation LIVE as it is happening! As for me, I’m staying in Denver. But Chaucy can’t get rid of me that easily… I’ll be making regular trips to Paonia to have fun mountain getaways, eat fresh organic food, and – oh, I mean, to work… Stay tuned for more updates, and as always feel free to call, text or email us with any questions you may have. For now, we have some clay to get into. These pots won’t make themselves!
